this person age average about 20 years old technically savvy and a sort of person willing to spend its money on cinema and broken alliance is its cup of tea and will have the following:
-oyster card -blackberry -money -keys -iPhone -sunglasses -student ID card -Headphones -possibly a laptop -pen -keys
This video demonstrates the progress we have made from doing the preliminary match cut exercise to the production of our final product, Broken Alliance.
We were slightly inspired by the opening of panic room and also the smartly dressed woman in it, so we tried to imitate that sophisticated business-like look in our title sequence.
She looks sophistciated & middle/upper class because of her trench coat , high heels & bag and we tried to make her look like the stereotypical business woman.
With the tramp we paid alot of attention to detail in the mise-en-scene aspect, e.g make-up , props (cardboard sign, cup, ciggarette) and clothes (dirty, biscuit crumbs) to construct the representation of a stereotpical 'tramp' / homeless person.
With our 'villan' we tried to get the appearance of a typical Villan with this look by her wearing all black with sunglasses to keep the theme of mystery & making her look suspicious, an example of this would be the film Men in black.
Mis-en-scene was very important for us as we had no sound or speech so we relied mostly on mis-en-scene to construct a representation of some type of social group / status.
These the two still screen grabs of titles, one from our film (broken alliance) and the other from Dawn Of TheDead , we wanted to have our titles on a black screen to give it a more mysterious and suspicious effect just like in dawn of the dead.
These are two still screen grabs, one is one of the opening establishing shots from the film panic room & one is one of our opening shots from our film, we used a panning shot like the one in panic room of building in london bridge.
One still is from the opening shot of the film Six Feet under with a bird flying in the sky which we used in our opening shot.
in the process of making our thriller title sequence i have use new form of technology firstly, i have learnt the safety and precautions of using the JVC tripod and tripod this was beneficial when filming because it had made it allot easier when filming.
we use livetype to be able to give our work credits and to enter text into our thriller sequence we use livetype and it was helpful in creating the image as if it was the start of the work.
also final cut pro where our editing was done and also where we were able to switch cut i have learnt allot since our tutorial this was the software in which we use the most time on to perfect our piece.
internet software like google and blogger were needed when doing our thriller. google is where we found information and blogger is where we put our own information on our title sequence
for our sound effects we use soundtrack pro this was very good when certain sounds were needed in certain parts of the play.
These are some photo's from the day of the screening of our films and some audience feedback videos of people saying what they generally thought of Broken Alliance.
We used a range of diffrerent technologies in the process of making our film opening ;
we used:
Final cut pro
In final cut pro I learned how toimport & export clips onto varous other programs such as livetype & soundtrack pro.I learnt how toCut Clips ,Mark in and mark out on clips ,Drag and drop clips from the browser box to the viewing box,Drag and drop clips into the timeline, how to make a Match cut.
Livetype
In livetype I learnt how to change font ,add effects to my font e.g Fades, floats and pop ups. I Learnt change the style e.g add a glow or outline & play the effects on the timeline, we also learnt how to import the titles into final cut to add to the title sequence.
Soundtrack pro
In Soundtrack I learnt to Drag & drop sounds onto the timeline, how to change or delete unwanted sounds ,how to join different sounds/instrumentals together on the timeline, I learnt ghow to speed up the tempo of the instruments aswell.
JVC HD Camera & Tripod
I Learnt how to turn the camera on & off ,how to open & close the lens,How to put the memory cards in ,How to switch memory cards (Card A & Card B) ,How to Focus the camera ,How to Record.I also learnt how to set up the tripod, how to lock the camera onto the tripod and how to change the length of the tripod legs ( to extend them).
This is an example of a student thriller sequence which was uploaded onto YouTube. It has 1238 hits already. Our film could be distributed in a similar way to this one as it is a low budget student video. A Facebook page could be set up for the film and links to it can be sent to all my contacts and they can pass the link on to their contacts, creating a chain so the film will end up with a wide distribution and an audience of technically savvy young people along with other Facebook and YouTube users. Also, a twitter account could be set up with links to the YouTube page, which will get people talking about the film and creating a frenzy about it, making it more successful with an increasing number of hits. By distributing our film on the Internet there is a potential global audience as the internet is used worldwide. Social networking sites such as Facebook, Myspace, Twitter and Bebo along with YouTube are all good ways of targeting a potential global audience as well.
This is the contents of a bag of a 18 year old student who would be an ideal person to watch Broken Alliance.
The items are:
Sunglasses
A purse
An oyster card
Student id
Money
Bankcard
Nail Varnish
Mirror
Keys
Mascara
Two phones
Ipod
She loves watching films, especially thrillers, and is always going to the cinema and doesn't mind spending money on DVDs. This young person is very technically savvy, as you can tell from the Ipod and two phones, which is why she would like to watch Broken Alliance as it has the modern aspect and the 'secret device'. The female characters would also appeal to this girl by their appearance. She likes to keep up her appearance and wants to do well in life, shown by her college id, sunglasses and make up, so the main characters being 'glammed up' business women would also draw her into the film.
When we constructed our characters we relied on the mise en scene to reveal who they are as we didn't include any dialogue. Our three main characters represented particular social groups:
The busy business woman
This character was an inspiration for our mise en scene from Panic room. This shot from the city shows a business woman, like the ones in Broken alliance. we wanted to represent the females in our sequence like this to appeal to the female audience. We tried to make our characters look like the stereotypical business women with the trench coat, high heels and bag, similar to this character from panic room. However with the business woman who dropped the device in the cup, we decided to put her in an all black outfit and sunglasses to reinforce the mystery.
Homeless person
when we were constructing the character of our homeless person we wanted him to look as realistic as possible. We googled pictures of homeless people to see the kind of mise en scene we would need for him. I think we achieved this successfully through the use of make up, old clothes, a throw, biscuit crumbs and a dirty cup to represent a homeless person. The difference was, as this is an action thriller which is meant to be suspenseful, we made him an undercover tramp, illustrated by the device, rather than an ordinary one.
This is an example of a student film that I found on youtube, its had over 1,922 views and was the Winner of Best Fiction Award at The Altered Images Student Post Production Festival this year.
For my student film , as it is low-budget , I would market & distribute this media product through websites like Youtube & social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter , Myspace & Bebo etc.. because it is accessible and is very popular among the technically-savvy audience I am targeting, I would keep reminding people of this film by constantly posting the links to other people's pages aswell as my own page.
I would upload the film onto youtube and then upload the link onto my own personal facebook/Twitter/blog pages etc.. & create a page especially for my film. I would create some type of buzz/hype about it and would then ask family and friends to post the links on there pages to get some feedback & more views for my film .
My target audience is specifically 16-30 both Male & Female (Technically Savvy).
This is a screen grab from the title sequence of the Dark knight thriller film. The tile of the film appears at the end of the title sequence, similar to how our title appeared on Broken alliance.
Panic room started off with a panning shot of the city, which we incorporated into our title sequence. as it is an action thriller, we wanted to use the city in our filming and we have already taken photo's which convey this. A lot of thriller films which inspired us had various city shots.
Earlier on, when looking at title sequences, dawn of the dead was one which really stood out. from the inspiration of this film we decided to cut between titles and shots and to put our titles on a black screen. This heightens the suspense of the title sequence and leaves the viewer wanting to watch more of the action.
At the beginning of Broken alliance we have a shot of a bird flying in the sky, similar to this film 6 feet under. This is used as an introductory tool to the film, preparing the viewer for what they are about to watch . It also contributes to the introduction of the City.
This clip from the action thriller movie Speed, which i looked at earlier on, also shows the use of the City in a thriller film. This inspired us to use this convention of an action thriller as it was available for us to use and made our film more realistic.
Abbie ,21, is your average girl , she loves make-up, clothes (Shopping), going to the cinema and just hanging out with friends. she always has the lastest , Phone or iPod out and could be considered as 'Technically Savvy'. I use people like her both male/female as my target audience.
with our tramp we use alot of mise en scene with the cups and sign board ect we wanted are target audience to realise and believe the fact that this character has really got into character and is really a homeless person.
also with the opening sequence of panic room we were able to take the idea of a smartly dress person on it as well this was hugely inspired by them
This is our audience feedback from when our title sequences were watched in class. these were he words people used to describe our film. Overall the feedback was generally positive. Although some people said they didn't really understand it, this mad us happy as it shows that our goal to make it very suspenseful was achieved.
